As 2022 comes to a close, Tom Stevenson, Investment Director, Fidelity International, is back on the FidelityConnects today as he rounds out the year and discusses what investors can look forward to in 2023. He also gives a global outlook on what is currently happening in world markets. He says Europe including the UK is in a recession or at least showing signs it is headed into a recession, but he says it will be a much shallower recession than expected. He points out that government bonds look really interesting at this point. For him, the principal driver of the turn of the markets is bond yields. He believes the focus at the start of the turn will be in the bond market, specifically in the government bond market. Tom says green energy is another sector to look out for and believes it is the most secure long-term investment in his mind. Among other topics, Tom also comments on US-China relations and the commodity super cycle and what it could mean for the UK.
Recorded on November 23, 2022.
