With questions still not answered about the course of inflation in the United States, the Federal Reserve chose this week to keep rates on hold. Chairman Jerome Powell says he is comfortable enough with the economic growth and labour story to stick with his policy of no-sudden-movements. However, with a potential bite from tariffs still to come and a labour market showing continuing jobless claims at steady levels, how long can this rate position grind on for? And, how does the interest rate differential, globally, leave Canadians who are investors of the loonie?
