The bull versus bear debate has heated up following recent U.S. employment numbers and market rally. Will these recent employment numbers prompt an even more hawkish Fed? Are some of the leading market indicators painting a clear runway for stocks or have stocks gotten ahead of themselves? Joining us today to unpack these questions and dissect some of the different scenarios within this, the key economic and macro themes, is Jurrien Timmer, Director of Global Macro. Jurrien speaks with host Pamela Ritchie and looks at earnings season which has seen 70% of companies beaten estimates so far, a fairly typical number according to Jurrien. But they’ve beaten estimates by an average of 1.3% which is a little weaker than normal. The topic of a possible recession is also centre-stage, with Jurrien noting that the manufacturing side of the economy is already in a recession, but it is only one tenth of the economy. Also unpacked today is the fluctuating global currencies seen of late, specifically Japan and the UK in 2022. Per usual Jurrien will share some slides so please head to @TimmerFidelity on Twitter to follow along.
