As US equity markets slide, we check in with Denise Chisholm, Director of Quantitative Market Strategy, to get her thoughts on international equities and other opportunities. With Europe most likely looking to cut rates earlier than the US, does this make a strong case for international equities? Denise says not necessarily. Even though European and international assets are cheaper than North America, Denise stresses the importance of growth. International equities have always been cheaper, but lack growth. She adds investing outside of the US has worse growth compared to the US in every cycle historically. Denise talks about the mining and metals sector and says it’s negatively skewed right now. She’s underweight mining and metals as well as healthcare. She says healthcare companies are no longer considered growth, but rather ex-growth and looking like a value trap. She adds defensive sectors are all looking like value traps at the moment.
