The energy sector is in the spotlight on today’s episode of Fidelity Connects as equity research analyst Thomas Goldthorpe shares his perspectives on global energy markets with host Pamela Ritchie. And with the EU’s December ban on most Russian crude-oil imports looming on the horizon, investors are waiting to see how this ban will affect risk and supply, increased compliance and other costs. Thomas expands on the Russian oil story. He says the country will become a two-way risk. He explains how the oil can be redirected, but there may be some short-term, 30 to 60 days friction, as a result. In addition, places like China, India and the Middle East will import more Russian oil as they do not believe in the embargo of Russia’s products. In addition to the oil situation in Russia, Thomas also touches on how investors should look at equities or their energy equities within their portfolios, getting gas pipelines built in Canada, and natural gas as part of the energy transition story.
